Timsah Arena – design description
The concept of Bursaspor’s new stadium was created in 2010, when the club reached for their historical first domestic championship. The stadium resembling a resting crocodile received global recognition for its original, yet controversial appearance. The outer shell consists of green glass and membrane partly overlapping the glass.
Internal appearance is also unique. There are two massive single-tiered stands behind goals, the east side has two levels, while main grandstand in the west has three tiers. Atop all of it are over 70 skyboxes.
Construction began in 2011 and was due to end in 2013-2014, but eventually proceeded into 2015.
Turkey: Normalisation at Timsah Arena
We know, the stadium's official name is different. But it's Timsah Arena for most fans and thus for us as well. The stadium in Bursa is getting into its final shape, which is a case of “better late than never” as we're 2.5 years since inauguration.
Turkey: Wedding in a crocodile's mouth, anyone?
Is it cool or just too much? Either way the giant crocodile head in Bursa is gradually moving towards completion. We should see its final shape by the end of June.
Turkey: Bursa’s crocodile head finally growing
After turbulences and delays construction of Timsah Arena’s crocodile head is finally going forward. Work will end in 2017.
Bursa: Crocodile skin with new paintwork
The outer membrane was pale and washy and is now receiving a more vivid green colour. Fans welcome the move with enthusiasm, though ticket demand for Bursaspor’s Timsah Arena is poor.
Turkey: Crocodile getting its skin
Green membrane is gradually covering the facade of Timsah Arena in Bursa. See how the “crocodile arena” grows its skin and large head.
New stadium: Controversial opening of Crocodile Arena
Still under construction, without many fans of Bursaspor, but officially inaugurated. Timsah Arena in Bursa was opened by Turkish president, while some protested and piping burst…
Turkey: The (so far) headless crocodile
Bursa mayor officially confirmed that Timsah Arena is ready. But wait, the “Crocodile Arena” is still missing its crucial part: the head.
Bursa: How green should a crocodile be?
It’s only a piece of membrane, but overnight caused serious outcry in Bursa. Bursaspor fans are flooding the city hall with complaints, because the façade colour doesn’t match renderings.
Turkey: Tragedy in Bursa, driver killed by collapsing crane
Massive mobile crane fell onto nearby highway, causing one death. Largest stadium build in Turkey was temporarily halted.
Bursa: Timsah Arena ready in half a year?
Though significantly delayed, the crocodile-shaped stadium is entering its final construction phase. The Turkish Timsah Arena is to be ready in June.
Turkey: “Big lift” begins in Bursa
One of the largest stadiums under construction in Turkey gains pace after months of standstill. Future home of Bursaspor sees the cable roof slowly rise above ground.
New designs: Turkish stadium boom
Two are ready, 18 further (!) are to be delivered within the next couple of years. In total Turkish government hopes to open over 20 new stadiums across the country. And some of them will recover entire spending right after opening.
Turkey: Massive steel roof to be mounted in Bursa
After the concrete bowl was finished preparation works for roof installation started. Now steel prefabs are being connected together to form larger roof trusses that will be mounted onto the stands in the upcoming two months.
