Al Hussein bin Abdullah II International Stadium – design description
The largest stadium in Jordan is planned as part of Amra City – a new city projected approximately 40 km east of the country’s capital, Amman. The government announced this 25-year megaproject on 29 November 2025.
By 2050, the city is expected to reach a population of between one and one and a half million inhabitants. The first phase of Amra City is scheduled for 2026–2029 and will cover an area of 40 km². One of the key components of this stage will be the new stadium.
Amra City is being developed by the Jordanian Company for Developing Cities and Facilities, established by the government-owned Jordan Investment Fund (JIF). The budget for the stadium alone is estimated at 200 million dinars.
In June 2026, earthworks for the new stadium were officially launched. Full-scale construction is expected to begin in early 2027, with completion and opening anticipated by the end of 2029.
The modern, football-specific stadium will have a capacity of 46,000 spectators and is set to meet all standards required for hosting top-level international competitions. The architecture of the stadium is intended to reference local cultural heritage.
The stadium complex will be complemented by green areas, training pitches, and parking facilities for 6,000 cars. Access will also be provided via a rapid bus transit system.
The stadium’s name (Al Hussein bin Abdullah II International Stadium) will honour Jordan’s Crown Prince, Al Hussein bin Abdullah II – the eldest son of King Abdullah II.
