Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes – design description

The expansion project of Granada CF’s stadium includes the addition of a fourth tier to the stands, as well as the filling in of the corner gaps. As a result, the capacity will increase to approximately 30,000 seats (from just over 19,000 at present). The visualizations also suggest that the structure will be topped with a decorative facade.

The first phase of the project is expected to focus solely on upgrading the stadium entrances, including the construction of a representative gateway with three characteristic arches, identical to the one that once stood at the former Estadio Los Cármenes.

The expansion of the stands will form the second phase of the investment and will be divided into several smaller stages. In the first step, the additional tier is to be built above the Preferencia stand (opposite the main stand), followed by further sections in subsequent phases.

The ambitious project was presented by the club on 27 March 2026, around a month after it was granted a new four-year concession for the use of the stadium, which also obliges it to invest in increasing the venue’s capacity.

The investment is set to be financed through funds from the city budget, the provincial authorities, and the club itself, which plans to use resources from the CVC Capital Partners fund for this purpose.

Opened in 1995, Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes has, despite numerous renovations, not undergone any major structural changes to date. The planned expansion is set to become by far the largest investment in the stadium’s history.

The first concept for expanding the stadium dates back several years. At that time, proposals called for increasing the capacity to 24,000–25,000 seats, while instead of adding a fourth tier, plans focused on lowering the pitch level and expanding the lower sections of the stands.
