South Riyadh Stadium – design description

Plans for the construction of South Riyadh Stadium have arisen in connection with Saudi Arabia's hosting of the 2034 World Cup – the new venue is to be one of the arenas for the event and host matches up to the Round of 32. After the World Cup, the stadium is to be hosted by one of the professional football teams.

The stadium, as the name suggests, is to be built in the southern part of Riyadh, specifically near Wadi Namar Park. Construction is scheduled for 2029–2032.

The football-specific facility will accommodate more than 47,000 spectators, and its architecture will combine modernity with traditional local style. From the outside, the venue will be decorated with vertical slats of rust color, and the stands will be covered by a transparent roof.

The facility will benefit from environmentally friendly solutions aimed at using renewable energy sources and responsible management of water resources. Drought-resistant plants that do not require frequent watering will be planted around the stadium.
