Al-Shohada Stadium – design description

 The stadium is being built in Al Sadr City (Hus the temporary name), almost in central Baghdad and with five other stadia in the vicinity. After contract signing with Turkish Nurol Construction preparatory works began in summer 2012. The project is to be delivered within 30 months, meaning a mid-2014 opening possible.

Initial renderings showed a more oval form (though still football-only), but this was later changed to a more practical rectangular form. When ready, it will be Baghdad’s largest football venue.
