Levi’s Stadium – design description

New stadium for San Francisco 49ers is being built in Santa Clara, south of the city. Initial capacity stands at 68,500 people, but has option of easy expansion to 75,000 for major events.

Most fans (45,000) will be seated in the lowest tier, only part of stands that will encircle the whole pitch. Upper tiers will be divided into main grandstand (with 8-floor corporate and office building behind it) and horseshoe-shaped remainder. According to plans 166 skyboxes are to be created.

Construction started in April 2012 and thanks to prefabricated elements the steel structure reached its highest point on December 7, 2012. The stadium is to be opened in August 2014.

In May 2013 the stadium's naming rights partner was announced. Clothing brand Levi's will be present for 20 years in the name for some $220 million. The sponsor will also have the right to prolong his contract by 5 years for additional $75 million.
