Nieuw Cambuurstadion – design description
The plan of building new stadium in Leeuwarden was first presented in November 2013, suggesting the location near WTC Expo complex, west of city centre. Final location hasn’t been confirmed yet, though. Analogically, the renderings how the stadium may look should be treated as initial ones.
Key fact is that the stadium is expected to have 15,000 seats, 50% more than the current one, too small to meet demand. Two key goals are commercial and ecological sustainability of the stadium. This is why retail spaces an solar batteries were envisaged in the early impressions.
Expected to cost some €25 million, the new stadium is expected to be ready in mid-2017. Agreement on the plan was reached by SC Cambuur, Leeuwarden municipality and Dijkstra Draisma construction company in March 2014.
