Nasiriyah Local Administration Stadium – design description
The concept for building a new stadium on the site of the old Nasiriyah Stadium is to create a football-specific venue with a capacity of 17,000 spectators. The pitch will be surrounded on all sides by stands of equal height, forming a rectangular shape with rounded corners. The stands will be divided into upper and lower sections, with the lowest row above pitch level. VIP boxes will be located in the main stand. A building with facilities will be adjacent to the main stand.
The seats in the stands will be white and beige. The white seats will be arranged in vertical lines to form a sound spectrogram pattern, which is a recording of the sound of Iraqi fans. The stands will be fully covered and will be shielded from the outside by an ornate façade, illuminated at night, with numerous downward-expanding pillars, alluding in shape to the tools used by the Sumerians to write cuneiform. The interiors of the stadium will include further references to Sumerian culture.
Construction of the stadium began in March 2022 and the venue is being built on the site of the previously demolished old Nasiriyah Stadium. Global Sport IQ is the main contractor and the facility should be ready in 2023. The investment is being financed with public funds. The stadium is expected to serve the players of Al-Nasiriya SC club in the future.
