Victoria Park Olympic Stadium – design description
The concept was an alternative to the proposed redevelopment of The Gabba for the 2032 Olympic Games. A new 60-80,000-seat stadium was to be built at Victoria Park, near downtown Brisbane, which would be the main venue for the Games. An arena and swimming pool were also to be built next to the stadium. The project was to cost A$3.4 billion to complete.
On March 18, 2024, Queensland Premier Steven Miles announced that both the redevelopment of The Gabba and the new complex at Victoria Park would not go ahead. According to the new plan, the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games are to be held at Suncorp Stadium, and the athletics competitions will be held at the redeveloped Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre.
