Fisht Olympic Stadium – design description
Olympic Stadium in Sochi is being built for 2014 Winter Olympics along with surrounding sports complex. Due to Russia hosting the 2018 World Cup as well, the ground has been listed for this tournament as well.
The location on seaside is very picturesque, but also caused ecological concerns. Design was done by Populous and provides both ends of the stadiums opened – with view of the sea (south) and mountains (north) available to spectators.
After the large tournaments local football team Zhemchuzhina is to use the stadium, which is expected to be downscaled to 25,000. There is also a prospect of hosting f1 Grand Prix here, with part of the track going through the stadium.
