New Murabba Stadium – design description

Plans for the construction of New Murabba Stadium were announced on July 16, 2024. The impetus for the stadium is that Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 FIFA World Cup – the venue is to be one of the arenas for the tournament and will host matches up to the Round of 32.

The stadium is to be built as part of New Murabba, a huge urban development project being carried out on the northwestern outskirts of Riyadh. The icon of the entire development is to be the Mukaab, a skyscraper in the form of a cube, 400 meters high.

The stadium itself also promises to be extremely impressive. Its design was inspired by acacia trees and is to refer to their cracked bark. The building will be irregularly divided into segments, and fans, moving between them, will have the impression of being inside a rocky valley.

The facility is to have a football-specific layout and will accommodate more than 46,000 spectators. The stadium will be equipped with the latest technology and will be adapted to host a variety of events such as concerts, gaming tournaments or exhibitions. The building will also include commercial spaces that will allow the facility to attract visitors beyond major events.

The vicinity of the stadium will be accessible by the new metro line 7. Construction of the venue is scheduled between 2027 and 2032.
