Arena Fonte Nova – design description

The ground is being built in the place of Estadio Fonte Nova that used to be among Brazil's most distinctive venues. Stands that used to have two tiers are now divided into three, but they retained both their oval form and one open end, allowing fans to look at the pond nearby. And as “Fonte” means “source”, the open end visually is the source of the water nearby.

Its predecessor was in desperate need of rebuilding as its state was catastrophic. In 2007 steps collapsed at the highest section, causing 7 people to fall on the pavement and die.
