Gaziantep Arena – design description

The need for a new stadium in Gaziantep was clear for years with renovation works for the existing central stadium falling short of modern requirements. Still, it wasn't until late 2012 that final concept was selected.

Final capacity should stand at 36,000 people, but the stadium should hold a reserve under the roof for further expansion to some 43,000, should demand increase.

Preparatory works on the site some 6km from the heart of Gaziantep began in May 2013, actual construction followed in August, while the entire stadium was expected to be operable in 2015. This didn't happen even though all major structural works were indeed done in 2015. But installations and furnishing lasted throughout 2016, enabling inauguration late, in January 2017.
