Orlando City Stadium – design description
After speaking with a few companies, Orlando City entrusted the final concept of their first own stadium to Populous, the leader in NFL and MLS stadia. The new stadium near downtown of the Florida city will have 25,500 seats, most of them covered.
East and west stands will provide two tiers each, split by a row of skyboxes (maximum of 38). The north end will be dedicated to most vocal supporters with a single tier, railings to stand by instead of sitting down and a pub-alike concourse.
Initial plan envisaged a very low south end along with corners left unoccupied. However, due to high demand before actual construction could begin the stadium was enlarged in 2015 to provide upper seats in the south and have two corners filled.
Construction was expected to begin in 2014 in order to end in early 2016, when the club will be preparing for their first MLS season. However it was later postponed and should now end in early 2017.
