In an email sent to supporters Wednesday, Orlando City asked for help securing $30 million in funding from the Florida Legislature. Fans are urged to write their representatives in support of the MLS stadium for City. The move comes after proposed state backing has been stalled.
Construction on the brand new sports venue was supposed to start next month but ground breaking could be delayed as state lawmakers continue to debate whether extra tax money set aside should go toward benefiting sports or healthcare projects.
Orlando city Mayor Buddy Dyer says $85 million is already set aside to build a basic stadium, however the additional 30-million in funding would take it from no frills to fancy. The $115 million version would include additional luxury suites and shade cover for fans protecting them from the Florida sun.
