Miami FC Stadium – design description

How does the new Miami FC stadium project look like in brief?

The new stadium for Miami FC (not to be confused with the more famous Inter Miami CF) is set to be built in Homestead, on the southern outskirts of the Miami metropolitan area. The venue will have a capacity of 15,000 spectators, and alongside it, plans include a football academy, a boarding school, and multi-purpose sports fields. The entire project is called the Sports Performance Hub.

The stadium is planned on the site of the Homestead Sports Complex – a baseball complex opened in 1991 that was never fully utilized due to the damage caused the following year by Hurricane Andrew.

The project is being carried out by a group of investors that includes former professional athletes, such as renowned footballer Juan Sebastián Verón and basketball player Manu Ginóbili, a 2004 Olympic gold medalist. Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2026 and is expected to last 18 months.

Why is a new stadium being planned for Miami FC?

Miami FC was founded in 2015 and has been competing in the USL Championship since 2020, the second tier of professional soccer in the United States (after MLS). Since its inception, the team has primarily played its home matches at Pitbull Stadium, which belongs to Florida International University (FIU).

However, Miami FC aims to have its own stadium, and Homestead was identified as a suitable location, situated on the southern edge of the Miami metropolitan area. Initially, the plan was to construct the stadium on land adjacent to an airbase, but ultimately the site of the Homestead Sports Complex was chosen.

Who is investing in the new Miami FC stadium?

The Miami FC stadium project is backed by a group of investors consisting of entrepreneurs, including the club’s co-founder Riccardo Silva, as well as well-known former professional athletes such as Juan Sebastián Verón, Manu Ginóbili, Pepe Sánchez, Juan Mónaco, and Mariano Zabaleta. This group has established a company called VSGS Facilities LLC.

Where will the new Miami FC stadium be built?

The stadium is planned on the site of the Homestead Sports Complex, a training facility that includes baseball and soccer fields. The complex was opened in 1991, with its main feature being a baseball stadium with a capacity of 6,000 spectators.

The complex was originally intended to serve the MLB team Cleveland Indians as a spring training facility. However, these plans were disrupted by Hurricane Andrew in 1992, which devastated Homestead and destroyed the new stadium.

Although the stadium was later rebuilt, the Cleveland Indians had already found an alternative training site, and the facility struggled to find tenants and host events.

Following the damage caused by Hurricane Irma in 2017, the stadium was demolished in 2019, leaving only the training fields within the complex. The planned construction of the new Miami FC stadium now gives the facility a chance to finally be put to proper use.

The Homestead Sports Complex is located near the Homestead–Miami Speedway, which hosts NASCAR races. The complex is approximately 30 miles (just under 50 km) from downtown Miami.

When was the new Miami FC stadium project unveiled?

On July 30, 2025, the Homestead City Council unanimously approved an 80-year lease for the land designated for the project. On September 18, 2025, an agreement was signed between the City Council, the mayor, and the investor group regarding the implementation of the project.

On the same day, renderings of the new stadium and the planned expansion of the entire complex, prepared by LaBella Associates, were also unveiled.

What does the new Miami FC stadium project include?

The plan involves the expansion of the Homestead Sports Complex, with the main element being a new soccer stadium with a capacity of 15,000 spectators. The stadium will be built on the site of the existing training fields in the eastern part of the complex, along the edge of a small lake.

The new stadium will primarily serve Miami FC, but it will also be open for other uses – one of the planned events is the Homestead Championship Rodeo.

In addition to the new stadium, the project includes a football academy, a boarding school, a medical center, a sports-themed hotel, and public sports and recreational facilities, including tennis courts, basketball courts, and fields for other sports. The entire project is named the Sports Performance Hub (SPH).

When will the new Miami FC stadium be completed?

The investment is estimated at $300 million and does not require public funding. Construction is planned to begin in March 2026, with the work expected to take approximately 18 months.
