Almaty Stadium – design description
The Almaty Stadium project envisions the construction of a modern, football-specific stadium in the northeastern suburbs of Almaty, the largest city and former capital of Kazakhstan.
The stadium will be located between Talgarsky and Kuldzhinsky Tracts, on a 15-hectare plot. Plans also include extending the metro line and building a major transport hub in the area.
The iconic architectural concept combines a modern form with traditional Kazakh motifs, avoiding excessive ornamentation. The stadium will have a capacity of 35,000 spectators and meet UEFA Category 4 requirements.
The facility will become a leading sports and cultural venue not only in Almaty but throughout Kazakhstan, with a status comparable only to the Astana Arena.
Previously, a redevelopment of the Central Stadium had been planned – the first project was drawn up in 2016, and in 2018 an even more ambitious concept was presented, featuring a panoramic interior screen similar to the one at the Krasnodar Stadium.
The Almaty Stadium concept was designed by the Kazakh studio Etnomura, and the model was presented on 25 August 2025 at the planned construction site, with the participation of Almaty’s akim (mayor), Darkhan Satibaldy. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026.
It is worth noting that the day after the model presentation, Almaty’s top football club, FC Kairat, achieved a historic qualification for the league phase of the Champions League.
