Stadion Todor Diev – design description
The design for the complete reconstruction of the Spartak Plovdiv stadium involves a major upgrade of the existing main stand on the west side, as well as the construction of new stands on the north and east sides, including the development of the north-east corner. The part of the stadium on the south side will remain open, although there is space to also build a new stand there in the future. The stands will be 80% covered and four lighting masts will be erected in the corners of the stadium. There will also be a video screen at the facility. The capacity of the expanded stadium will be 8,200 spectators.
The stadium redevelopment was initiated by Spartak's president, Dinko Milenchev, who is investing his own money in the project. Construction was inaugurated on November 10, 2021, and it was initially declared that the work would be completed in the 2023/24 season, with hopes of a possible completion still in the autumn of 2023. Since then, however, the estimated cost of the investment has increased from the initially announced BGN 7.5 million to BGN 18.2 million, and the completion date has been pushed back to December 2026.
After the initial works, the construction practically stopped and is not being continued, which casts doubts on the sincerity of the intentions of the redevelopment initiators. In 2024, information appeared that the city authorities were considering building a park in place of the Spartak stadium.
