Stadion Stali Stalowa Wola – design description
In 2008 Stalowa Wola held an international design competition for its new stadium. The ambitious plan of building a new 10,000-seater to replace the old one was decided to go under local architect Marek Geirulski’s design.
Addressing the stadium’s location with very little room for the east stand, this part was planned as the lowest. Both end zones were to be higher and the western grandstand was to have two tiers and dominate the design.
Construction of the eastern side for 1,430 people began in 2011 and ended near the end of 2012. By then it turned out the city needs a lot more funding to complete the project. Planned to cost PLN 40-50 million, the complete phased project would consume up to 100 million.
This prompted downscaling the plan. End zones were lowered to the level of the east stand, while the main grandstand was merged to have only one tier. Capacity decrease would be at roughly 2,000.
