King Khalid University Stadium – design description
King Khalid University Stadium opened in 2020 and was developed in conjunction with the new campus of King Khalid University (Al-Fara'a University City), which was built about 30 kilometers southeast of Abha.
The stadium can hold 22,000 spectators and is equipped with an athletics track. It is surrounded by a sports hall, an indoor swimming pool, small playing fields and parking lots.
Since the stadium has been designated as one of the venues for the 2034 World Cup, the facility will turn into a football-specific arena before the tournament. A brand-new, permanent main stand is to be built on the west, while on the other sides the pitch will be surrounded by large, temporary structures that will increase the capacity to more than 45,000 spectators.
