Stadion Miejski w Krotoszynie – design description
The new multi-use stadium in Krotoszyn is part of a much larger sports and leisure complex beside the Odrzykowskie lake. The entire scheme spans nearly 16.5 hectares and includes facilities for professionals and amateurs alike. Among other, the complex will see tennis courts, two extreme bicycle tracks, covered streetball field, upgraded harbour and skatepark, as well as a camping site and outdoor gym.
Entirety comes at a price of PLN 45.9 million (€10.6m at the time of contracting), of which almost exactly half covers the main stadium. The budget also includes a rather modest subsidy from the sports ministry, totalling 2.5 million.
With these resources, the stadium is getting a brand new stadium with 2,500 seats, able to host professional football and athletics events (8-lane running track, facilities for jumpers and throwers), also after dark. Floodlights will also be mounted at the neighbouring training field.
The stadium’s layout mimics that of the historical stadium, with stands on the west and east sides. However, the main stand grows significantly, reaching 14 rows in height and offering a timber canopy to nearly half of all spectators. The east stand is almost like the old one (albeit fresh and concrete-based instead of landfill), with 4 rows.
The main stand offers a total of 3 floors. The most accessible ground floor includes extensive facilities like several changing rooms (north wing), main hall with cafeteria and a shop (centre) and administrative rooms, conference room and spectator toilets (south wing). Natural light can access the stadium through translucent glass facade. The second floor is in fact a technical platform and thus sealed off, while the top floor includes cabins facing the field, including a main VIP lounge, commentary positions and control room.
