Camping World Stadium – design description
How does the Camping World Stadium renovation project look in brief?
Thanks to a $400 million renovation, Camping World Stadium in Orlando will receive a new, striking exterior facade and a third tier of seating behind the north end zone. The upper tiers along the sidelines will also be rebuilt – the only part of the stadium that was not included in the major renovation of 2014.
The plan also includes upgrades to premium areas, restrooms, and concession points, as well as equipping the arena with modern technologies. The renovation will bring a slight increase in capacity, to at least 65,000 spectators. Work began in late 2025 and is scheduled for completion in summer 2027.
What is Camping World Stadium like?
Camping World Stadium is Orlando’s main stadium, located about 1.5 miles west of downtown, adjacent to Lake Lorna Doone. The stadium opened in 1936 in a much more modest form than today, but successive investments over the years have increased its capacity to over 60,000 seats.
Although the stadium has struggled to host a permanent professional sports team, it has hosted a wide range of high-profile events, including matches during the 1994 FIFA World Cup, the 1996 Summer Olympics, the 2016 Copa América Centenario, and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
When did the last major renovation of Camping World Stadium take place?
The last significant renovation took place in 2014, when the lower bowl was completely rebuilt and the north side of the stands was enclosed. These changes were complemented by the addition of a second tier on the north stand in 2021.
How did plans for the next major Camping World Stadium renovation come about?
In January 2024, the authorities of Orange County approved a plan to allocate revenue from the Tourist Development Tax. One of the projects funded under this plan was the next major renovation of Camping World Stadium, with $400 million allocated – nearly twice the cost of the extensive work carried out in 2014.
According to the initial plans, the renovation would first focus on rebuilding the upper tiers of the stands, which had remained untouched during the 2014 works.
The renovation project was prepared by DLR Group, and the construction contract was awarded to a consortium of Barton Malow and AECON Hunt. In November 2025, the City Council gave final approval to the renovation plans.
What does the Camping World Stadium renovation plan include?
The project includes the renovation of the upper tiers along the east and west stands. The structures will be reinforced externally with additional hurricane bracings, which also serve as the load-bearing framework for a decorative facade encircling the entire stadium, composed of undulating horizontal slats.
A visible change will be the addition of a new tier on the north stand. This will result in a tall, three-level stand behind the north end zone, which remained completely undeveloped until 2014.
New seats with backrests and armrests will be installed throughout the stands, and the stadium’s capacity will increase to at least 65,000 spectators.
The plan also includes renovations of premium areas, restrooms, and concession points, as well as upgrades to the stadium’s technical infrastructure. In addition, a new building adjacent to the stadium will house a multifunctional event center.
What will the Camping World Stadium renovation achieve?
The renovation aims to improve match-day comfort and experiences, extend the stadium’s service life, and increase its profitability and competitiveness for major events. In the near future, the stadium will compete to host matches of the Women’s World Cup (2031) as well as the Men’s (2031) and Women’s (2033) Rugby World Cups.
Immediately after the renovation is completed, the stadium is likely to serve as the temporary home of the NFL team Jacksonville Jaguars for one season (2027), while their EverBank Stadium undergoes expansion.
It is also possible that the stadium will gain a new naming rights sponsor following the renovation.
When will the Camping World Stadium renovation take place?
Renovation work at Camping World Stadium began on December 8, 2025, and is scheduled to continue until summer 2027. The main contractors are Barton Malow and AECON Hunt. Events will continue to be held at the stadium throughout the renovation period.
