New chapter for Miami FC
Miami FC unveiled plans to move from FIU Stadium to Homestead, where the new stadium will be designed by LaBella Associates. The 15,000-capacity venue will serve as the centerpiece of the Sports Performance Hub – a $300 million sports and recreation complex. The site will include a professional academy, a boarding school for youth, public sports and recreational facilities, a sports medicine center, and a 200-room themed hotel.
The project is located on 80 acres of land next to the Homestead-Miami Speedway. The city council approved an 80-year lease agreement, clearing the way for construction to begin. Investors include former NBA star Manu Ginóbili, former Argentina international Juan Sebastián Verón, ex-NFL kicker Martín Gramática, tennis player Juan Mónaco, and Miami FC co-owner Riccardo Silva.
Ceremony and words of support
The official signing ceremony took place at Homestead City Hall with Mayor Steve Losner, city council members, and SPH representatives. On behalf of the City of Homestead, I am thrilled to be welcoming Miami FC and professional soccer to our great community,
said Mayor Steve Losner. Having a club whose main mission is to impact the community and provide opportunities for our families and youth will be an incredible asset, while providing long-term benefits to our local economy. This is truly a great moment for our city and our residents,
said Losner.
Also present was Justin Papadakis, Deputy CEO of the United Soccer League. Miami FC’s move to Homestead and the vision behind this new stadium development represents a tremendous step forward for the club and professional soccer in South Florida,
said Papadakis. We’re seeing incredible momentum across the USL as communities invest in world-class facilities that elevate the experience for both fans and players. With Miami joining cities like Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Sacramento in building new homes - and the World Cup coming to our backyard next summer - excitement around soccer in this country has never been stronger,
he noted.
Miami FC co-owner and SPH stakeholder Riccardo Silva shared his enthusiasm: This is an important day for our club, Miami-Dade and South Florida, for the City of Homestead, and for the growth of the game with the World Cup just months away. I am proud to be a part of the vision of the Sports Performance Hub and excited for the opportunity to help write this next chapter in the vibrant community of South Dade.
Farewell to FIU Stadium
The new stadium will rise 35 miles from downtown Miami. Since 2016, the club has played at FIU Stadium (also known as Pitbull Stadium), which holds 20,000 spectators. The venue, located on the Florida International University campus, has hosted both FIU Panthers football and Miami FC matches.
Club CEO Mario Roitman expressed gratitude: It is extremely important that we also thank FIU for allowing us to call Pitbull Stadium home for these last 10 seasons. From hosting championships to major U.S. Open Cup events, we could not be where we are today without the support and partnership from our friends at FIU. We are looking forward to working closely with them over the next months during this transition to ensure a smooth process.
Homestead, known as the Gateway to the Florida Keys,
sits at the southern edge of Miami-Dade County. Since rebuilding after the devastation of Hurricane Andrew in 1992, the city has grown rapidly. Today it boasts a diverse economy that includes an air force base, agriculture, new industrial projects, and major sports events such as NASCAR races and the Homestead Championship Rodeo. Organizers of the rodeo have already announced they will move their events to the Sports Performance Hub in the future.
