Spain: Plans to renovate Granada stadium are raising doubts… and suspicions Granada have unveiled the renderings of the future refurbishment of the Nuevo Los Cármenes Stadium. However, these plans do not appear to have the backing of a large section of the fanbase. Fans not only claim that the approach is flawed, but also believe that the images have been created using… artificial intelligence.

Four levels of stands, but no roof

Granada CF has unveiled what it calls the most ambitious and immediate structural project for the club. A project that envisages the refurbishment of the entrances and a significant increase in capacity at the Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes.

The first phase will focus on improving access, starting with the Puerta de la Afición, where the club plans to rebuild the iconic archway that fans used to enter the old Los Cármenes stadium.

Meanwhile, the second phase will focus on the stands, which will gain another level. Divided into sub-phases, this part of the work will begin in the Preferencia stand, which will gain almost 1,500 seats. Next, the north-east and south-east corners will be enclosed, allowing for the installation of almost 3,000 seats there. Subsequently, the expansion will affect both ends, which will thus gain a further 3,000 seats. Next, the north-west and south-west corners will be enclosed, adding almost 1,600 new seats, before finally adding a tier to the Tribuna stand, whilst retaining the old roof.

As a result, the stadium will have four levels of stands, and its capacity will increase from the current 19,189 to 29,686. It is worth noting that each phase will be structurally independent, which will allow work to proceed in different areas of the stadium without the need to first complete the connections between the stands, explains the club.

What the Granada board has not yet explained is what will happen to the façade. Although the images show it clad in a modern red-and-white design, the club has not included such changes in the project description. Nor has it included, either in this description or in the photos, a full roof for the stadium.

Fans complain about the lack of a roof

The vast majority of fans' reactions were a mix of surprise and disappointment. Scepticism about the album's credibility and complaints about the lack of a cover art were the prevailing sentiments.

What a missed opportunity. The proposed enclosure is a daft idea; it doesn’t cover the stands, laments one of the fans. It looks pretty good, but a roof over all the stands should be a must-have in any modern stadium refurbishment, agrees another. They need to roof the whole pitch… and make the project come true, says another fan sceptically. One fan even put forward his own proposal to fix the project.

A project created using AI?

However, fans noticed something odd about the rendering. Despite the rounded corners… the lighting masts appear in the same place as nowadays, embedded in the stands. This is theoretically possible, but it makes no sense, as it would complicate the construction work and prevent seats from being installed in parts of the new corners.

This rendering looks a bit odd, says one of the users on X. The graphics are really poor, agrees another. But there are also fans who have no doubts as to the cause of the error. I don’t have much faith in AI-generated images…, says one of them.
