Stade Gabriel Montpied – design description

Stadium with a capacity of 10,800 seats now has one permanent arch-shaped structure (west stand with 7,000 seats), which was put into use in 1995. It's famous for the unique shell-shaped roof, which always made it a challenge to add further matching sections. The rest of the auditorium are small modular stands. The idea of expansion to 30,000 was initiated in 2003.

In 2018, plans were approved and construction is to be carried out in three stages. In the first phase, a new eastern stand will be built for 6,000 fans. In the second stage, the south stand and the corners of the eastern stand will be created.

A new north stand is to be erected in the final phase of works. Upon completion of the first phase, the venue will have a capacity of 16,000, the second phase (23,670) and the third one (30,000).

In the summer of 2021, after club's promotion to Ligue 1, a temporary modular tribune with 3,000 seats is to be built. Lighting power will be increased from current 1,250 lux to 2,100. New camera platforms and commentator booths are to be installed on the west stand. Lighting masts, 39 metres high, will be moved 7-8 metres further from their current position to provide necessary visual comfort for TV broadcasting.
