Stadion Miejski w Opolu – design description
Opole's new municipal stadium, home to Odra, will be built in the north-western outskirts of the city, close to the Karolinka shopping centre. International competition delivered 11 entries and the joint venture of 90 Architekci and GMT proved successful.
The winning design by creates a clear and strong landmark with very simple means. Robust frame of the roof created sharp edges, while undulated white membrane opens the stadium up and invites fans inside, while adding dynamism to the otherwise sedate form.
Four smooth arched openings make it recognisable from afar, also providing shelter to arriving fans and facilitating illumination of the entire stadium.
The new stadium in Opole will hold 11,600 people in a uniform, 18-row auditorium. Elevated front row should ensure optimal sightlines. At the same time is adds floor space behind the stands as toilets and catering facilities are pushed underneath the stands.
