Description: Karşıyaka Stadı
North of Izmir will see another new stadium, this time for Karşıyaka. It’s expected to replace the outdated athletic stadium, but without retaining the running track. Due to very limited width of the plot its eastern stand will be a very modest one.
Construction tender is to be launched in January 2014, while the entire structure should have been ready in 2015. Unfortunately, the project was on hold for a long time and demolition of old facilities began only in May 2015, meaning delivery would come in 2017. Along with the stadium, local tennis courts are to be replaced with two commercial buildings between which a new access route to the stadium should be created.
Turkey: Izmir’s last stadium saga to finally end
Plans for a new Karşıyaka stadium were revealed back in the 20th century. The old ground got demolished in 2015 and yet nothing beyond foundations was delivered to date. The deadlock should change in 2022.
