How was the Xiong'an Sports Center project conceived?

On April 1, 2017, a project to build a new settlement unit was announced, which was to be located about 50 km east of Baoding and 120 km south of Beijing. Xiong'an (this is the name it was given) is to be a futuristic city using new technologies, well connected to nearby metropolises. Eventually, it is also to become the headquarters of some government agencies and enterprises.

The plans for a modern city could not lack a representative sports complex. The new Xiong'an Sports Center is to consist of a main stadium, an arena for 10,000 spectators, an indoor swimming pool with an auditorium for 2,000 people, as well as additional playing fields and recreational areas.

What will the stadium of the Xiong'an Sports Center complex be like?

The main stadium of the complex will have a multi-purpose layout (with an athletics track) and will accommodate exactly 30,001 spectators in its stands. The auditorium will be covered and, in addition to the stands, the roof will also cover a wide, panoramic viewing platform. The stadium will receive a subtle, elegant form combining the features of a modern sports venue with oriental architecture.

When will the Xiong'an Sports Center be built?

The center's design was created by architects from the Shanghai Architectural Design and Research Institute. Construction of the complex began on February 18, 2022 and the main contractor is Beijing Urban Construction Group. The cost to build the entire complex is 2.52 billion yuan. The facilities were supposed to be ready by the end of 2023, but construction has been significantly extended.
