Power Court Stadium – construction description

The new stadium of Luton Town FC will be built almost in the very centre of the city, on the post-industrial Power Court site, where a power station and other industrial facilities once operated. The venue will replace the current Kenilworth Road, which has been the club’s home for more than 120 years.

The design of the new stadium is distinguished by its original “halo” – a steel frame suspended above the pitch. Symbolically, it is intended to represent a hat, in reference to Luton Town’s nickname, while functionally the distinctive structure will provide optimal lighting for the pitch.

The stadium will feature a compact form and modern design, while also retaining characteristics associated with the traditional English style. The stands of the new venue will be able to accommodate 25,000 spectators.

The club unveiled the plans for the new stadium in 2015, when the former industrial buildings were demolished to prepare the site for redevelopment. Prolonged procedures and other obstacles meant that intensive earthworks did not begin until 2024.

The project required, among other things, the relocation of an electrical substation and a sewer collector located on the site, as well as the diversion of the River Lea. In January 2026, piling works began, marking the start of the main construction phase of the stadium. The new venue is expected to be ready for the start of the 2028/29 season.
