Stadion Balgarska Armia – construction description
How did the construction of CSKA Sofia's new stadium come about?
CSKA Sofia, one of the most popular and successful clubs in Bulgaria, had been seriously trying to rebuild its own stadium since the early 2000s. Over the years, new projects have been created, but they were not implemented. It was only after the partnership with Sportfive was established in June 2022 that concrete action was achieved.
What will the new CSKA Sofia stadium be like?
The new venue will be built on the site of the old Bulgarian Army Stadium. The facility is to be a football-specific one, without an athletics track, and will accommodate just over 16,000 spectators. The stadium will be modern, in line with the ideas of sustainable development and the requirements of the highest, 4th UEFA category.
More details about the design of the new CSKA Sofia stadium can be seen on a separate subpage
How is the construction of the new CSKA Sofia stadium progressing?
The last match in the old stadium was held on December 10, 2023. After the closure of the old facility, CSKA temporarily moved to the nearby Vasil Levski National Stadium. Demolition of the old facility began in April 2024 and lasted until the summer of 2024, with demolition work carried out by Roster OOD.
At the end of September 2024, the start of the actual construction of the new stadium was announced. Construction work is expected to last a year and a half and be completed in spring 2026, with Glavbolgarstroy as the main contractor. Construction of the facility is expected to cost 90 million leva.
