Allianz Stadion – construction description
Rapid Wien is building its new stadium directly in the place of the former one, just rotated to lie on the north-south axis. Along the concept revealed in June 2014, the new stadium will hold up to 28,000 people (including terracing). 2,500 corporate seats are hoped to boost the club’s financing.
Demolition of the old Gerhard-Hanappi-Stadion began in early October 2014, after ceremonial farewell with thousands of fans. By January 2015 nearly nothing was left of the stadium, which allowed foundation works for the new arena. Delivery of the stadium is planned for June 2016.
