ArcelorMittal Park – construction description
Designed by JSK Architects, Zagłębiowski Park Sportowy is a sports complex in central Sosnowiec, just beside the Górka Środulska leisure area. Three oval, timber-clad venues are expected to be built. The football stadium will hold 11,600 people (with option to expand to 14,546), indoor are further 3,000 and covered ice rink ends the list with 2,500. Together these are to become one of Poland's best such centres.
Although the winning concept was selected back in 2015, complex design work and securing of funds by the city only allowed for the construction tender to be launched in late 2018. Offers for all three venues vastly exceeded what Sosnowiec had secured, which led to the indoor arena and ice rink being postponed.
Initial price estimate for the stadium stood at net PLN 64 million, while the lowest offer reached 120 million (147.9 m with tax). Contract for the stadium was eventually signed, however, in late May of 2019. The new stadium is due in 36 months, which means delivery by June of 2022.
While BPBP construction crews were running enabling works on the site, the city launched another tender for remaining two venues. The ice rink fell through once more, however the indoor arena was awarded to that same company. This phase also proved more expensive than anticipated (by 23.5 million), contracted for PLN 57.6 million. Signed on Sept 30, 2019, the contract foresees delivery of the 3,000-seat venue in 24 months.
