Ningbo Olympic Sports Center Stadium – construction description

Ningbo's new representative stadium is being built on the Yao River, more than 10 kilometers northwest of the city center. The facility will feature an athletics track and is expected to hold 80,000 spectators, making it one of the largest in all of China.

Ningbo is a large city located on the East China Sea, about 150 kilometers south of Shanghai. The city is home to one of the largest ports in the world.

The stadium will be part of a larger sports complex. Its first phase was completed between 2014 and 2019, when a sports hall for 13,000 spectators, an Olympic-sized swimming pool and a training hall were built.

The entire complex is surrounded by recreational areas, paths and parking lots, and a subway station is located nearby. Symbolically, the buildings of the sports halls and pool are meant to bring to mind a sailing fleet, at the head of which will stand the main stadium – the flagship.

Construction of the main stadium is the second phase of the project, which began in late 2024. The facility is expected to be ready in four years, at the end of 2028.
