Regenboogstadion – construction description
What was realized in phase one of the redevelopment of the Waregem stadium?
Shortly after the end of the 2013/14 league season, the first works started at the stadium in Waregem. First, those adapting the facility for UEFA competitions, then the groundworks for the construction of the first new stand. First on fire was the south stand and the adjacent south-east corner.
What was realized in the second phase of the Waregem stadium redevelopment?
Already on November 28, 2014, the new stand was opened. As part of the second phase, the temporary north stand was decommissioned and a new stand, almost twinned to the one in the south, albeit without corners and with standing places, was erected in its place. This phase was completed in the first half of 2016, without interrupting the use of the stadium by SV Zulte-Waregem.
What's next for the redevelopment of the Waregem stadium?
The popular 'Essevee' plan to keep the two stands along the pitch, although they are to be decisively modernized, partly rebuilt and equipped with new vomitories and stairs.
The resulting new stadium would have a capacity of 13,400 spectators with standing places (1,400) or 13,000 with seats only. Of these numbers, 900 of the seats would be visitors' chairs and 200 for the disabled. There will also be space for 26 skyboxes at the top of the auditorium.
The project worth approx. €25 million also involved surrounding the rectangular stadium with an elliptical façade. In addition to the stands, this will hide the club's offices (2115 m²), banqueting rooms (1200 m²), commercial areas (855 m²) and a restaurant (590 m²). There will also be a bowling alley, a fitness club and a new SV Z-W shop.
When was the corner with boxes at the Waregem stadium built?
In 2017–2018, a corner building with boxes was built in the south-western part of the stadium. However, ambitious projects for further redevelopment have been shelved for the time being.
