Akyazi Stadi – construction description

The new stadium for Trabzonspor was designed by German ASP architects. It catches the eye with dynamic external form. The stadium is to be covered with translucent membrane spanned over steel frames that create a unique, angular form.

At the same time the enclosed form gives fans shelter from sun, rain and high winds from the sea as the ground will be built just meters away from the Black Sea coast. It is to become the heart of Akyazi complex, Trabzon's largest sports/leisure/conference destination built on 795,000 sqm of artificially created land.

Official groundbreaking took place on November 24, 2013. However, preparatory work started in 2011, when works on covering sea water with land began. Piling and foundation works started in mid-2011, before the groundbreaking. Overall the stadium is to be ready within 2 years.
