Arctic Arena – construction description
The exceptional sporting results achieved by FK Bodø/Glimt in recent years have made the club a phenomenon not only on a national scale, but also across Europe – all the more remarkable given that it is based in a town of just 40,000 inhabitants located above the Arctic Circle.
The club’s success has opened the door to infrastructure development, especially as the current Aspmyra Stadion just meets the requirements of European competitions. At the end of 2024, the club concluded an architectural competition, selecting a design for a stadium provisionally named Arctic Arena.
The modern stadium is planned to accommodate 10,000 spectators, and its defining feature will be a dark, elegant facade with triangular forms, evoking the shape of a diamond. The entire project draws inspiration from the Arctic climate and Nordic architectural tradition.
Construction of the new stadium began at the turn of 2025 and 2026, with completion scheduled for autumn 2027. The facility is being built on a previously undeveloped site in the Thalleåkeren area, less than 2 km east of Bodø city center, along the main outbound road from the city.
