Karaman Şehir Stadyumu – construction description

Preparations for the construction of a new stadium in Karaman began after Ertuğrul Çalışkan was elected mayor of the city in 2014, promising in his campaign to step up efforts to develop sports infrastructure. The design for the new 15,000-seat football stadium was prepared by Alper Aksoy Architects. A hitherto undeveloped site in the eastern part of the city, far from the center, was chosen as the location.

The tender for the construction of the facility was won by Meda Yapı and Gintek İnşaat. The contract was signed on July 19, 2017 and the handover of the construction site took place on July 24, 2017, with a contract value of 79.744 million Turkish lira. Work was originally scheduled to be completed in autumn 2019. However, construction has dragged on significantly. In the summer of 2019, the advancement of work was estimated at 55%, and two years later at 70%. Ultimately, the facility did not open until the beginning of the 2023/24 season.
