Talanta Stadium – construction description

The construction of Talanta Stadium is the largest investment in sports infrastructure in Kenya's history and the first of its kind since the 1980s, when Kasarani Stadium and Nyayo Stadium were built in Nairobi.

Plans to build the stadium came as Kenya was awarded the hosting (jointly with Tanzania and Uganda) of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations – the new Talanta Stadium is to be the most important arena for the event and will host the opening game and the final.

The facility is being built in the western part of Nairobi, in Jamhuri Park. The stands will have a football-specific layout – without the athletics track – and will be fully covered. The exterior will feature a decorative facade, decorated with shield and spear motifs familiar from the Kenyan flag.

When completed, Talanta Stadium will accommodate 60,000 spectators, making it the largest stadium in the country, as well as one of the largest and most modern in the entire region.

The groundbreaking ceremony, attended by Kenyan President William Ruto, took place on March 1, 2024. The main contractor is China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), and construction is proceeding at a rapid pace. The completion date is set for the end of 2025.
