BSC Main Stadium – construction description
New sports city for Basra is the first such large project launched as part of rebuilding works throughout Iraq. With this 65,000-seater at its centrepiece, the complex comprising several other stadia and numerous other sports and leisure facilities is among the most impressive built to date.
Designed by American practice 360 Architecture, the stadium has classical double-tier layout with running track around the pitch. From the outside impressive fiberglass segments form a dynamic façade that gives both shade and ventilation to the inside.
Construction works started in 2010 and opening is planned for early 2013.
