Estadio Atanasio Girardot – construction description
The expansion of Estadio Atanasio Girardot primarily involves adding a third tier to the stands. As a result, the stadium’s capacity will increase to 60,000 seats, making it the largest stadium in the country.
The venue will also receive a decorative facade and a new roof covering the entire seating area. The existing stands and facilities will also be modernised. Upon completion, the project will deliver a high-class modern football stadium.
The project was initiated by the city and its financing is guaranteed by public funds. The works began in July 2026 with the removal of the old main stand roof. The expansion is scheduled to be completed before the end of 2027.
