NS Square – construction description

The NS Square project can be seen as an evolution of The Float @ Marina Bay, which previously occupied the same site – on the edge of Marina Bay, in the heart of Singapore’s Downtown Core. The new structure will also be centered around two main elements: a monumental grandstand and a waterfront platform.

The platform will have a circular shape and will be partially surrounded by a semi-circular grandstand for 30,000 spectators, opening out toward the bay and the high-rise buildings on the opposite side. The overall layout will resemble that of an ancient theater.

NS Square is designed as a multifunctional space – hosting concerts, performances, and sporting events, as well as serving as a venue for parades, shows, and public ceremonies. The circular platform will be large enough to accommodate a full-size football pitch, and during the Singapore Grand Prix, a section of the race track will run directly in front of the grandstand.

The most important events held here will be the celebrations of Singapore’s National Day Parade. NS Square is also intended to pay tribute to National Service (NS) – the country’s mandatory service in the armed forces and other uniformed services.

The old The Float @ Marina Bay was dismantled between 2023 and 2024. The groundbreaking ceremony for NS Square took place on 19 March 2024, and completion of the new facility is planned for 2027.
