Hoima City Stadium – construction description

A new stadium in Hoima is being built for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. The facility is being constructed on the eastern outskirts of the city.

The authorities are investing in Hoima not coincidentally – in the early 2000s, rich oil deposits were discovered near the city, and the region is expected to develop rapidly. Uganda's second international airport is expected to open near Hoima in 2025.

The stadium will be equipped with an athletics track, and the covered stands will hold 20,000 spectators. The facility will become one of the largest and most modern stadiums in the entire country. A sports hall and auxiliary stadium are also planned in its surroundings.

Construction began on July 1, 2024. In charge of the project is the Turkish company Summa, which has been given 18 months to complete the task – until December 31, 2025. The work is proceeding very smoothly and it is possible that it will be completed ahead of schedule.
