Description: Malatya Arena
Initial bids to build a new stadium in Malatya date back to 2007, but it wasn't until 2011 that an early design was drawn, based on which the project took off.
Contractor was initially selected back in 2011, but construction only began in 2013, expected to last over one year. Unfortunately after delays the contractor abandoned his work site in 2015 and new one arrived in early 2016 to complete the work.
The 25,000-seater will have parts of its lower stands based on land slopes, while other sections will see infrastructure underneath, like offices or garages. This allows to keep the budget low.
At the same time architects from the Azaksu practice managed to include in the calm and simple outer shape a distinctive feature. Behind one goal the cladding will split into two layers, with one creating a shaded plaza in front of the stadium.
