Stadion Miejski w Bielsku-Białej – historical stadium description

The stadium was built in 1927 by Bialski Klub Sportowy, (BKS, later called BKS Stal), strong local side, devoted to several sporting disciplines with football as priority. Initially it was a track and field stadium, renovated extensively in 1950's thanks to support of local industry. After those works athletics track was eventually dropped, but stands retained their elliptical shape with only grass replacing the track.

In 2008 renovation to meet modern standards took place. This time financed by the city as BKS was unable to finance it and transferred ownership of the venue in 2006. New features were seats, floodlight masts and under-soil heating. Later curved stands behind goals were demolished, leaving just two parallel ones on sidelines.

Since 1999 Podbeskidzie joined as second major tenant and in 2010 financed new temporary end zone for some 840 to cope with interest.

In April 2010 construction permit was issued for a new 15,000-seater at the same spot, but after fierce protests by local residents the process was halted for over 2 years. First stand of the new stadium (north end) was opened in October 2013.
