Pingxiang Olympic Sports Center Stadium – stadium description
When was Pingxiang Olympic Sports Center Stadium built?
Construction of the modern sports complex in Pingxiang, featuring a large stadium, a sports hall, and a swimming pool, officially began on September 29, 2022, with Jiangxi Pingxiang Construction Group as the main contractor.
The complex was developed in the northern part of the city as part of the area’s dynamic growth. The total investment amounted to 1.35 billion yuan.
The facilities were completed in 2025, and the main stadium held its inaugural match on July 27, 2025, during a provincial league game (Jiangxi Super League), in which the Pingxiang team lost 0:1 to Fuzhou.
What is Pingxiang Olympic Sports Center?
Pingxiang Olympic Sports Center consists of three main facilities: the stadium, a 4,500-seat sports hall, and an Olympic-size swimming pool with seating for 1,500 spectators. The complex also includes a training track, smaller pitches, and parking areas, complemented by carefully designed pathways, squares, and green spaces.
The architectural concept of the complex is inspired by a classical anecdote associated with Confucius – about a duckweed plant floating and spreading its leaves (Ping shi tong yao). Following this idea, the three main buildings are shaped to resemble this plant.
The forms of the buildings and the overall layout of Pingxiang Olympic Sports Center also reflect the natural landscape of the Pingxiang area. In 2026, the facilities will serve as the main venues for the 17th Jiangxi Provincial Games.
What are the main features of the stadium at Pingxiang Olympic Sports Center?
The main stadium at Pingxiang Olympic Sports Center is multi-functional and equipped with an athletics track. Three sides of the track are surrounded by oval stands, which along the straight sections are extended with a second tier, giving a total seating capacity of 22,000 spectators.
The northern curve remains open, without stands, but the entire building – including the northern section – is unified by a continuous, oval-shaped, dynamic structure, which forms both the facade and the roof over the stands.
