Ganzhou National Fitness Center Stadium – stadium description

When was the Ganzhou National Fitness Center Stadium built?

Construction of a large, representative stadium for the city of Ganzhou in southern China began in 2020. The works were carried out by Fujian Construction Engineering Group, and the facility was practically completed in 2024.

The stadium was built as part of the first phase of development of the Ganzhou National Fitness Center sports complex. In subsequent stages, a 15,000-seat indoor arena and an Olympic swimming pool with a 3,000-seat grandstand are also planned next to it. The first phase of the investment required 1.6 billion yuan.

When was the Ganzhou National Fitness Center Stadium inaugurated?

The stadium opened to the public on May 1, 2025, when an open day was held and residents were able to visit the facility. On May 7, 2025, the first football match took place at the venue – a Chinese League Two fixture in which local side Ganzhou Ruishi FC lost 0–2 to Guangxi Hengchen FC.

The first concerts at the new Ganzhou National Fitness Center Stadium took place on August 2–3, 2025. Popular singer G.E.M. performed there as part of her I AM GLORIA World Tour 2.0, with the two-day event attracting approximately 80,000 people.

What does the Ganzhou National Fitness Center Stadium look like?

The stadium has a multi-purpose layout and is equipped with an athletics track. The track is surrounded by grandstands arranged on two tiers, with each tier further divided into lower and upper sections. The total seating capacity of the venue is 45,000 spectators.

The first rows of seating are located above the level of the track and pitch, and two video screens have been installed behind the curves. The stands are fitted with plastic seats in white and various shades of purple.

The entire building is covered by a large metal structure that gives the stadium its distinctive oval and streamlined shape. This structure serves both as a roof over the stands and as the external facade of the building.

According to the architects, the form of the stadium is intended to loosely reference the landscapes found in the surroundings of Ganzhou. Some observers, however, have noted similarities to Beijing’s National Stadium, which has led to the venue being nicknamed the “Bird’s Nest of Ganzhou.”

The stadium is surrounded by an elevated entrance promenade, while the immediate vicinity includes a training track, small sports pitches, and parking areas. The venue is located in the southern part of Ganzhou, within the Rongjiang New District.
