Nanjing Youth Olympic Sports Park Stadium – stadium description
The Nanjing Youth Olympic Sports Park complex was developed for the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games, held in Nanjing. Construction began in late 2011, but the facilities were not fully completed until 2017.
The complex is located in Pukou District, on the left bank of the Yangtze River, near the entrance to the Nanjing Yingtian Avenue Yangtze River Tunnel. The park is divided into two parts situated on both sides of a small river, connected by a pedestrian bridge.
The southern section of the complex is occupied by smaller sports facilities, while the northern section contains the two main venues – the stadium and the indoor arena – which are connected to each other.
The stadium is a multi-purpose venue equipped with an athletics track and offers a capacity of 18,000 spectators. The arena is slightly larger, accommodating 21,000 people, making it the largest indoor venue in China.
In 2024, a major redevelopment plan for the stadium was announced. Under the new design, the venue will lose its athletics track and gain a football-specific layout. The project will also significantly increase capacity to 50,000 spectators. Construction is expected to begin in late 2025 and will last 480 calendar days.
