Lüliang New District Sports Center Stadium – stadium description

How the new stadium in Lüliang came to be?

A modern, representative stadium in Lüliang was built in the northern part of the city, over 10 km from the center, along the Beichuan River, in a newly developing area known as Lüliang New District.

The project was initiated by the city authorities. As part of the project, provisions were made for a sports hall with 6,599 seats and a swimming pool with 1,930 seats. The total cost of the investment was 1.1 billion yuan.

Earthworks began in 2017, while actual construction started in 2020. Interestingly, the impressive arena roof was built first, followed by the stands. The new stadium was nearly complete by 2024, although work, particularly on the surrounding area, continued into 2025.

The first major event held at the new stadium in Lüliang was a New Year’s Eve gala concluding 2025. The event was broadcast nationwide on state television.

What the new stadium in Lüliang looks like?

The stadium has a capacity of 20,000 spectators and features an athletics track, surrounded by single-tier stands of uneven height. Behind the track curves, two large LED screens have been installed.

The stadium stands out for its unique and unusual roof: its structure, laid out on a rectangular plan with a large oval opening in the center, is supported by four corner pillars, and the entire dome is characterized by an original, parabolic geometry.

Inside, the roof forms four massive arches spanning the stands, through which views of the surrounding buildings and landscapes can be seen.
