Kaifeng Sports Center Stadium – stadium description
When was the Kaifeng Sports Center built?
The construction of the new representative sports complex in Kaifeng was officially inaugurated on May 28, 2019. The complex included a new stadium, as well as a sports hall, training hall and indoor swimming pool. The project cost 1.647 billion yuan to complete.
The first major event to be hosted by the new complex was the 11th Kaifeng City Sports Games. On October 24, 2023, the opening ceremony of the Games was held at the stadium of the complex, which was also the inauguration of the facility.
What does the Kaifeng Sports Center consist of?
The complex was built in the north-west of the city and consists of two main parts. On the western side stands the main stadium and on the eastern side a complex of interconnected buildings: a sports hall with a capacity of 7,500 spectators, a training hall and an indoor swimming pool with an auditorium for 1,500 people.
Surrounding the main facilities is an athletics training track, as well as car parks, green areas, paths or small architecture.
What does the Kaifeng Sports Center Stadium look like?
The stadium has an athletics track and stands for 30,000 spectators. Along the pitch, the stands are noticeably higher and have been divided into tiers. The auditorium is equipped with seats with backs, arranged in a yellow and red mosaic. The roof over the stands is largely covered with a translucent material. The façade was created with downwards tapering strips of white membrane.
What purpose does Kaifeng Sports Center serve?
The stadium serves as the main sports facility in Kaifeng. The entire complex is used on a day-to-day basis by young people and local residents for training and recreational sports, and the facilities are also designed to host high-level sporting and cultural events.
