What is the history of NRG Stadium, Copa América 2024 stadium?
NRG Stadium is part of a complex of sports and entertainment facilities collectively known as NRG Park. The stadium was built to replace the Astrodome, which was inaugurated in 1965 as the world's first multi-purpose domed sports stadium. Construction of the new venue began in March 2000 and was completed 30 months later.
In September 2008, the stadium sustained damage from Hurricane Ike. Portions of the roof covering were blown off, and other parts of the stadium were damaged by wind and water. Debris was also found inside the stadium. Officials stated that the stadium did not suffer significant structural damage, except for the roof, and it was reopened just a few weeks later.
